Arcata is the neighboring city to Eureka, and was originally named Union Town. Although smaller than its neighbor, Arcata has a population just over 17,000. Arcata is known for housing Humboldt State University which is the northernmost university in the Californian State School system.
Other than the university, Arcata is home to several community and national forests, and breathtaking beaches with miles of sand dunes for you to walk through and explore.
If you want to experience the history and culture of Arcata, stop by the Downtown Plaza! There you will find local boutiques, locally grown food, and locally brewed beer and ciders; walk over to the Plaza on a Saturday morning/afternoon, and you’ll be smack dab in the middle of the Farmer’s Market action!
